Problem Description

When downloading zip files from foreign websites, it is common to encounter filename corruption after extraction. This issue usually arises from a mismatch between the system language and the language used when the compressed file was created.

Example of Filename Corruption After Extraction

This problem is particularly common when downloading MMD zip files from Japanese websites (such as Neconeco).

Solution

You can resolve this issue by using the default code page language conversion feature in Bandzip software.

1

Open Bandzip

Launch the Bandzip software.

2

Set Default Code Page

Find the default code page option in Bandzip’s settings.

3

Select the Correct Language

Set the default code page to Japanese (or the appropriate language).

After correctly setting it up, the extraction result should look like the image below:

Correctly Extracted Filenames

If you frequently download compressed files in different languages, consider using extraction software that supports multiple language encodings, such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.
